Simple SMART Marketing for Small Business – Free Training Part 1

I have created a short, free training on how you, as a small business owner, can prepare your own Marketing Plan to grow your sales.

It follows a simple to follow, step-by-step system of seven steps, which are: –

  1. Know what is your real product;
  2. Know who is your real customer;
  3. Meet your target market’s requirements;
  4. Make your Selling Price a factor in your marketing;
  5. Choose the most appropriate marketing activities;
  6. Schedule your campaign plan; and
  7. Implement then Monitor and Evaluate.

I am releasing this free training in two parts, this week below, being Part 1, along with free worksheets listed below. Read More

Small Business Marketing

I laugh sometimes at the different definitions of “small business”.

The Australian Taxation Office tells you that you can get small business entity concessions when you are a small business – the definition? If your turnover is less than $10 million.

The Australian Bureau of Statistics defines a small business as one that employs 20 people or less.

Many of my clients and members of Teik Oh Dot Com training would love to turn over sales of $10 million and employ 20 staff! To many of us, that describes a medium-sized business because small business is you and me, making sales of several hundred thousand to a couple of million at the upper end and maybe working alone or employing up to 10 staff.

So, when people like us see advice for “small businesses” we tend to switch off.

But that would be a mistake because we all want to grow, don’t we? And one thing I can tell you after 40 years of working with small businesses all over the world in my career, the simple things you need to do is the same in every sized business – except for scale. Read More

Small Business Marketing Made Easy – Your Messages

This week I’m going to give you a challenge that will focus your marketing on your ideal customer.

The Logic of Marketing is one of the Six Business Success Factors that I have consistently found – in 40 years’ of working with small businesses – that successful businesses all possess.

Even if you feel you don’t have the skills, or that you are too busy, or that you can’t afford it, you cannot deny that your business needs to market itself to customers.

What stops us is that we think it’s too expensive, or we don’t know how to start because we don’t know enough about it.

So, we “market” by talking about our product, we hang signs on our doors, or we place the odd advertisement on social media or in a newspaper.

What if I were to show you the Logic of Marketing and how easy it is to start?

Small Business Building Blocks – Marketing

I have spent 40 years working with small business owners in the UK, the US, South East Asia, and Australia.

If there is one thing I have learned about growing a small business is that, anywhere you are, a successful small business owner needs to develop six things within their business.

They may have started with an idea or a skill, but ultimately what sets a successful small business owner apart from an unsuccessful one is that they learn to develop these six factors over and above any idea or skill.

I call them The Six Business Success Factors (and further below you can download my free Guide on how you can follow a roadmap to develop yours).

Small Business in COVID-19: Marketing During COVID-19

Last week I wrote about four strategies to employ during the current pandemic crisis to keep your business going.

This week I wanted to talk about how you can still continue marketing during the crisis.

First of all, let’s get this straight – I have heard a lot of people say that they feel awkward marketing during the crisis because they feel everyone is in the same boat.

That’s only half true – everyone is in the same boat, but why does that equate to not doing business?

So, let’s look at how you can still conduct your marketing even during the lockdown.
